Today Wim Wouters, the CEO of GRIN, published a sad blog post on the website of Woolfe, the studio’s most recent and last game ever. Under the title ‘Game Over’ he announced that GRIN’s team has been dismantled and that he has requested bankruptcy unable to pay outstanding bills.
This explains the studio’s public silence the past few months. Wim stresses that this lack of communication was not out of disrespect for the community, but mostly out of devastation and shame. The team members, and Wim in particular, feel like they have let down their fans by releasing a game that didn’t fully meet the high expectations. They gave it all they had, never lost their passion and spent every minute of spare time on the project, but in the end that simply wasn’t enough. The game was met with mediocre reviews and lacklustre sales.
GRIN is the second talented Belgian developer that closes its doors this summer. At the end of July Tale of Tales announced it would stop making games after the disappointing sales of their game Sunset.
We wish Wim Wouters and all of the team the best of luck with their future endeavours!
