With their award-winning debut game Journey for Elysium out of the door, proud FLEGA member Mantis Games have recently showed the first images of what’s next for the Ghent based studio. And it looks like it’s time for something completely different.
Described as a colourful VR game about catching mischievous fruit on a space ranch (killer pitch, guys!), Astro Harvest looks like a very fun VR smoothie that mixes VR shooter mechanics with Overcooked’s recipe matching. To become the king of the fruit basket you’ll have to quickly pick and match the right types of fruits and accurately shoot them through the right coloured hoops to add them to your recipe and rack up your score.
It’s a simple concept, yet the game seems to be full of character already. Living berries and bananas helplessly spinning around right before you launch them into orbit instantly put a smile on your face, and the way they bumble around the ranch is very funny. It shows that, after years of working on an emotionally charged narrative adventure with a monochrome art style, the team is really enjoying the bubbly joy of colour.
Astro Harvest will also include multiplayer and we’re already looking forward to frantic fruit battles and intense co-op pineapple mashing VR action. There’s no launch window yet, so follow Mantis Games to be kept in the (fruit) loop. That’s enough fruit punch for the day. Sorry.
