There’s a lot of video games to play on the game portals of our proud member CrazyGames. Few of them manage to reach the astounding numbers of Shell Shockers though. Since releasing, the casual first-person shooter created by Bejeweled designer and PopCap co-founder Jason Kapalka’s new studio Blue Wizard Digital, the game has been played over 35 million times on CrazyGames’s portals alone.
That’s a lot of beaten eggs.
You see, Shell Shockers plays like most online multiplayer first-person shooters, but instead of human enemies, you hunt down rival eggs. Yes, it can be that simple sometimes. You can go all sunny-side up in solo play, or scramble together in team deathmatch. Captula the Spatula even puts a spin on the popular Capture The Flag mode.
Another big difference with most multiplayer shooters is you can get into the game instantly, without worrying about downloads or installs. You’re just one click away from playing a cool game, and according to CrazyGames CEO Raf Mertens, that’s what draws most people to these platforms.
According to Kapalka, web games are having a bit of a resurgence after the “flashpocalypse” where many Flash games went basically extinct as a result of the pulled support of Flash. “CrazyGames are at the forefront of this boom in web games and I’m delighted how succesful Shell Shockers has been on their portals”, he adds.
The veteran game developer loves to work with CrazyGames because “of their strong support for developers, especially in marketing and monetisation, as well as their massive audience. Talking about monetisation: players have purchased over 900 000 (!!) in-game cosmetic items on the portal.
