Cartamundi, the world leader in playing cards, has recently acquired Playlane, the Flemish market leader in digital children’s entertainment aligned to mobile devices. Due to this acquisition, the fledgling company in Ghent will now be sure to receive multiple opportunities to offer its technology and services to many of the worlds global players in this domain.

Playlane was founded six years ago by Kris Carron and Jelle Van De Velde. The duo started the company operating from the garage of a parents house, quickly growing to a team of 15 people with an office located in Ghent. From the very beginning, the company invested in the correct technology and ultimately came through in a very competitive space outshining its counterparts for the digitization of educational products (Plantyn, Die Keure, Van In) and picture books (Clavis, Lannoo, Abimo, Averbode, …). Playlane develops – mobile – digital projects for well-known children’s IP such as Kaatje, Plop, Bumba, … Internationally the first approaches have been made towards customers in the UK, Denmark and Germany. Last year, Playlane and its technology was nominated for the prestigious UK “Appsters Award” in the category “best entertainment.”
