Anyone who has experienced the joy of working with great cloud based applications like Office365 or Google Drive will have a hard time returning to software that’s locally installed. For high-end visual applications with sturdy hardware requirements there often isn’t much of a choice. Cloudalize, one of the newest members of the ever growing FLEGA family, is offering an alternative. Through their My GDaaS (GPU Desktop-as-a-Service) concept high-end graphical programs can be accessed anywhere, at any time and from any device.
How they manage to accomplish that? This video obviously doesn’t get into the technical nitty gritty, but it gives a good idea of the basic concept. Though we won’t hold it against you if you need some time to let the idea sink in.

With virtual workspaces outfitted with up to 8GB of video memory fueled by a partnership with worldwide GPU market leader NVIDIA, it goes without saying Cloudalize is a natural fit for game developers. Just think about the possibilities: artists and designers no longer have to be chained to their workstation to get some work done. Teams consisting of people from across the globe can all easily work together as if they were sharing an office. On the fly changes of an event demo can be made based on player feedback.
As you can run Cloudalize off your college laptop on the wifi of your parents, starting developers working from their bedrooms won’t have to invest in costly hardware (or office space) to let their creations come to life but still be able to use state-of-the-art technology. Next to a fixed monthly fee you only pay for the amount of virtual workspace you really need. Need some last minute back-up to nail a tight deadline? Simply create another virtual desktop for a temporary freelancer. Nearing the end of a project? Scale it all back to suit your needs.
You can request a trial of the software here.
Alternatively, Cloudalize will be one of the many FLEGA members on show at the Belgian booth at gamescom (more on that in the coming weeks) so you can just pop over and say hi. The cloud may be the way to go, let’s not forget about real life social interaction from time to time!
