While the sun was out in full force last Sunday, so was the #FlemishGamesIndustry at the closing event of the Up Your Game (link in Dutch) competition taking place in Antwerp. A collaborative effort between Game Mania and VAF/GAME, participants were challenged to come up with a solid game concept of their own.
Chaos ensued as one hundred fifty aspiring game developers took up the gauntlet. The best six were invited to pitch their ideas to a jury, and the grand prize winner walked away not just with a cemented belief he could one day make it as a game developer, but also took home a brand new Nintendo Switch Lite. Who again said game development doesn’t pay off in this country?

Looping throughout the event, a couple of videos told the story of successful #FlemishGamesIndustry studios like LuGus Studios, Triangle Factory, and Curious Cats (link in Dutch). Players could also go hands-on with Antigraviator, Space Pirate Trainer, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 to witness first hand our small country is able to produce stellar game experiences. As shown on the pictures, a diverse audience really enjoyed the afternoon.

So a big thumbs up to the participating developers, VAF/GAME, and Game Mania to let us enlighten their fans about our precious industry and the reality of building a career in game development in our region.
