Gamescom is still two months away, but nonetheless the Flemish games industry has already started their victory march on Germany. At the Comenius EduMedia Awards in Berlin proud FLEGA members LuGus Studios and Bazookas managed to come out on top.
Founded in 1995, the annual awards are aimed at outstanding products in the field of ICT-supported educational media. They are awarded by the Society for Pedagogy and Information, a European society for multimedia, educational technology and media didactics.
The jury celebrated the educational values of drone simulator Liftoff and as a result awarded LuGus a seal in the category for Computer and Educational Games. Played by over 80,000 drone racing pilots world wide, who rather crash their costly drone in a virtual environment than a live one, the game is the number one drone simulation on the market. After keeping the project in the Steam Early Access oven for over two and half years, receiving over 100 free updates as a result, the team is slowly navigating its way towards a final release version.
The online educational platform Bingel (link in Dutch), developed by Uitgeverij VAN IN with support of Bazookas, also received a gold medal. Judges loved the fact teachers have a lot of options for differentiation and applauded the way parents are involved in the development of their child. The platform also scored well due to game elements, such as customisable avatars, that stimulate kids to regularly tune in and practice.
Congratulations to all involved!
