Robots eh? One minute they’re mowing your lawn while you sip a cocktail, the next they get all rebellious and start a robot uprising. Bloody communists! Steel is tougher than flesh and in the war that follows, humanity gets all but wiped out. Just a handful of people evaded the onslaught, and are preparing to take the fight back to the bots. And with the release of the free Rise of Humanity: Prologue on Steam, you get a front seat to the start of that battle.
For those of you not up to speed: Rise of Humanity is a strategic turn-based deck-building game created by our proud member Cybernetic Walrus. Set in a dystopian world ruled by an evil AI, your band of misfit resistance fighters will have to outsmart an army of powerful robots and drones to restore humanity’s former greatness.
In order to do so, players will have to carefully navigate XCOM-like battlefields by playing cards from their deck. Each hero character – a hunter, a hacker, an engineer – has its signature abilities so you’ll need to use everyone on your team wisely if you are to survive the fearsome opposition. Instead of lobbing that explosive bunny at the laser visor of a bot right away, you can try to sneak past them and open a chest to build up your deck. Inbetween missions, players can finetune their deck, upgrade cards or even merge them together to add even more strategic depth to the game.
The prologue offers but a small taste of life in the robot resistance, but it’s a great opportunity to warm up your robot murdering skills for when the game enters Early Access in the coming months.
