During last week’s Media Fast Forward event, investor PMV and Flemish broadcaster VRT announced the new joint venture Media Invest Vlaanderen (link in Dutch). They mainly offer financial support for emerging media companies that want to invest in media content (of which video games are a part) or media technology.
For Flemish and Brussels game studios who want to grow, it might be worth looking into what Media Invest Vlaanderen is all about. The joint venture is aimed at building sustainable businesses and will offer different kinds of investments ranging from € 250.000 to € 1.000.000 depending on the project.
Just like any other investment, you’ll have to back up your passionate enthusiasm with a solid business plan. Think about what you want to create, what audience you’re targeting, who’s in your team and how you’re planning to make it all work financially.
Of note: Media Invest Vlaanderen will never act as a sole investor. Every collaboration has to include own funds and a third party, making Media Invest Vlaanderen especially interesting for crossmedia productions.
PMV previously announced to set aside an investment budget for the cultural and creative sectors, perceived to be high-risk investments for banks and other traditional investment companies. Their financial strength combined with the media experience of VRT could be a great fit for game companies looking to take their studio to the next level.
