Possibly Pixels has been working on a new project for KU Leuven. The aim of this project is to investigate and improve number sense in children in Flanders. The project has several branches: one for preschoolers, one for primary schoolers, and one for university students. GOA Number Sense is a game which can replace the tedious standardized tests which are currently being used in school.
The game will contain several simple tests as well as a game to train your number sense as the story progresses. The sotry takes you on a trip through visually appealing environments which change from a toxic wasteland to a peaceful paradise.
To alleviate this task, we created two (very similar) games where players perform these exercises in a visually rich environment, backed by a child-friendly story. Players take on the role of Sidegirl, the sidekick of superhero Dudeman, who has fallen ill due to the increasing environmental pollution. To save him, she has to rescue animals (the source of his powers) and bring them to his sickbed. Rescuing animals is done by performing one of the aforementioned exercises (e.g. select the largest group of animals).
