It’s been a bit over two years since proud FLEGA member Possibly Pixels has launched its digital storybook app TaleThings. The app currently has two stories on offer, and a third one’s in the works for release later this year.
You can download a humorous version of Aesop’s fable (as collected by Jean de la Fontaine) The Raven and the Fox for free and add 3 Goats and a Troll to your collection if you like what you read. Currently, the team’s working on a retelling of iconic tale The Hare and the Turtle. It’s been some time coming, but you know what they say: slow and steady wins the race!
Built with Unity, TaleThings stories are brought to life with playful animations and effects. Toddlers can marvel at the beautiful scenery while listening to the story, while children who are learning to read can follow along with the word highlighting feature. As the stories are narrated by professional voice actors in different languages (English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified) and Norwegian), the app is also a fun way to learn a new language.
Possibly Pixels was founded six years ago by academics Jelle Husson, Jeroen Wauters and Lieven Van den Audenaeren. Inspired by the audio cassettes and storybooks from their childhood, the team set out to create a digital experience to capture that same kind of wonder. The result is TaleThings and we’re very much looking forward to what’s up next for that story.
