Attention all wanna-be space pirates of the PlayStation ecosystem. If up until now you lacked the required technical equipment to enroll in the training program, today might be your lucky day. Prepare for a VR experience unike any other, as Space Pirate Trainer is landing on PlayStation VR today.
Main developer I-Illusions teamed up with fellow FLEGA member Glowfish Interactive to bring a full fledged version of the VR shooter to the new platform in all its critical acclaimed glory. The PSVR is quite a different beast, so this wasn’t as straightforward as it sounds. The team spent a lot of time on optimising to make sure that blasting enemy drones on PS4 feels as smooth and satisfying as ever.
Due to Sony’s 180-degree front-facing tracking limitations, they also had to come up with a solution to alert players when a risk of tracking loss would occur. It was very important to do this in a non-immersion breaking way and the custom chaperone system that was developed with this goal in mind does the trick extremely well.
The game has been a VR darling ever since its early access days and has found both commercial and critical succes. With the arrival on the PSVR platform, the Space Pirate Trainer academy opens up its doors to the largest VR install base yet, so there should be a lot of new recruits out there. Be warned though: it won’t be easy to dance your way into the hall of fame and beat developers Dirk Van Welden, Chris Hanney and the other members of the team at their own game!
Space Pirate Trainer is the first Belgian game to land on PSVR and we’re very proud of the teams that made this happen. Congratulations to all involved!
