Space pirates of the galaxy, this is the day you’ve all been waiting for. Today your favorite training simulation will uprade to the final version. That’s right, Space Pirate Trainer is leaving Early Access and the major launch update promises a VR workout you haven’t seen before.
The team at proud FLEGA member I-Illusions has cooked up all kinds of additions to make the game feel fresh, while at the same time retaining the awesome arcade experience that made SPT a VR darling in the first place. Talented trainees that manage to survive the onslaught of new waves and enemy types may even get to test their skills against The Hex Droid, a new boss which has a shield and fiendishly spins around, making it a very hard target.
Leaner enemies mean you’ll need new tools to take them out. The update introduces a new turret system that can help take down enemies. There are three different turrets with different fire modes such as a Tesla coil for zapping enemies, a laser turret with auto-targeting, and a ray cannon with manual control. On top of that, there’s also new power-ups like a new shield, super lasers, super rays and even a companion drone that will fight at your side till its circuits get fried.
There’s also a couple of additions to help lesser space pirate gods see all the new content, such as an easy mode (don’t expect to play it from your couch though!) and the much requested wave checkpoints, so you don’t have to start all over when you’ve been blown to smithereens again.
The game has been both a commercial and critical success in Early Access and this final release is sure to raise its popularity even more. If you feel like trying to kick Dirk Van Welden off the leaderboards of his own game, Space Pirate Trainer is available on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift (and supports Windows VR) and will run you € 14,99. Good luck. You’ll need it.
