Since launching Painting VR in May, close to 10.000 (wannabe) artists creatively assaulted the canvas of their digital painting studios. It’s a big success for Ghent based studio Oisoi, who now want to take the painting experience to the next level. What’s better than throwing buckets of paint without soiling anything, you ask? Well, throwing buckets of paint at your friends, of course.
Goofing around with others is not the prime objective of Painting VR World, which you can back now on Kickstarter, but it highlights that doing things together, whether it’s playing or creating, is always more fun. Currently, people head over to Discord to showcase their work or ask questions about certain painting techniques. With Painting VR World, the goal is to organise all of this in the virtual space and bring a worldwide community of VR painters closer together.
Opening up your digital painting studio to other creators invites a lot of exciting new possibilities. You’ll not only be able to welcome guests, but you can work on a painting together. And before inviting people over, maybe you’ll want to spruce up your studio with a custom environment to give it a trademark feel? Going further, players can even host virtual art classes, exhibitions, or engage in art therapy.
Multiplayer has always been on the Painting VR roadmap, but the dream of bringing their worldwide community of VR painters together quickly outgrew the scope of just a simple feature. That’s why Oisoi is looking to raise € 27.000 to make all of this collaborative goodness happen. Starting at € 15 for a copy of the game on the Oculus Quest platform, you can pledge extra for exclusive Kickstarter brushes and environments for your painting studio.
To be truly remembered as a Painting VR champion, you can get your name on a plaque in the game, your own personal portrait and a 3D-printed and hand-painted statue of the game’s mascotte Buckety. All yours for € 2500. But then again, who can put a price on art?
Regardless of what’s happening on Kickstarter, the team is keen to stress that new builds of Painting VR, containing extra features and improvements, will keep rolling out to current owners of the game. The next updates will include, among other stuff, better blending and finger painting. So if you’re interested in throwing buckets of paint over your fr… we mean creating beautiful art projects together in virtual reality, you know what Kickstarter to back.
