Do you know that one about a horse, a monkey, and a rhino that are fleeing a bunch of bears that want to savagely murder them? If you don’t, you should definitely catch up with Liquid Sunshine. The latest game from one-man indie studio God as a Cucumber is out right now on Steam and Xbox One, and it promises a trip like no other.
Liquid Sunshine fuses the art of a stylish black and white graphic novel with puzzle platform gameplay. You play as three jungle animals that will have to rely on each other’s skills to make their way through various levels.
Husk is an agile monkey that can climb trees and jump across gaps. The horse Spooner can kick him over even wider ravines and uses his length to help his friends up on higher ledges. Tent the rhino is the trio’s powerhouse. He can kick down doors and move platforms. Why are there doors in the jungle, you ask? Oh, you’ll see!
Gameplay is intertwined with animated graphic novel story panels. The stylish black and white visuals combined with the trippy soundtrack might just give you a slight case of epilepsy, but they go very well with the psychedelic theme of the story. You see, not everything in Liquid Sunshine is what it seems.
For those of you that care less about the game, God as a Cucumber is also preparing to release the story as an 80 page graphic novel later this year. In any case, this won’t be a trip you’ll quickly forget.
