Last week our proud member Triangle Factory launched the alpha version of their online multiplayer VR shooter Hyper Dash on SideQuest, a third party games platform for the Oculus Quest. Seven days later the free alpha version has been downloaded a whopping 10,000 times! With an average review score of 4,9 out of 5, it’s safe to say players are loving the experience.
Hyper Dash is a fast-paced 5 versus 5 online VR arena shooter that wants to become the best competitive multiplayer FPS on the Oculus platform. Bringing in tons of VR experience from earlier projects, the team knew that nailing movement would be key to success. Next to sprinting and rail sliding, they came up with a cool teleport/dash mechanic that lets you zap around the maps quickly while shooting your friends in the face.
But look out! Dashing leaves a visible trail so it’s easier for opponents to spot where you’re heading and warm up their trigger fingers. Clever players can use it to create a diversion and take their enemies by surprise. You are limited to three dashes (five with a power upgrade) that recharge over time, so use them sparingly and strategically.
Strategy will be of the utmost importance as all the game’s modes are team based. In Domination you’ll have to take control of three different points on the map and hold them for five seconds, while Payload takes a leaf out of Overwatch’s book. There’s a third mode that’s not currently in rotation called Capture Point. Here, the goal is to capture a single point on the map and hold the fort for 300 seconds to win.
While Hyper Dash seems like a natural fit on the wireless Oculus Quest, the game actually supports cross-play between all VR headsets. Players without a headset are able to control a drone to soak in the spectacting action, further enhancing the esports potential of the title. Oh yeah, all weapons are single-handed and you can dual-wield. As if this game wasn’t cool enough already!
While still in alpha, it’s clear that the team have already poured tons of work in the game. As the many positive comments on SideQuest and social media show, the potential of this game is huge. With few online VR shooters currently living up to its promise, Hyper Dash could set a new standard on the platform. No surprise then that Triangle Factory already got the green light to released it on the Oculus Store as soon as it’s finished.
For now though, check out the free version on SideQuest and join the game’s growing community on Discord. That way you can say you were already a fan of VR dashing before it became cool.
