As part of their mission to improve the quality of narrative in video games, VAF/GAME has launched a new initiative called the Game Writers Club (link in Dutch). The online community is aimed at ambitious storytelling professionals in Belgium and the Netherlands who want to work with story and games.
Headed up by FLEGA member like Charlie co-founder Dagmar Blommaert, it’s a great space to meet kindred spirits, share experiences, be inspired and get feedback on your work from like-minded writers. The club welcomes all Belgian and Dutch writers with an interest in video games and aims to create better stories by embracing the knowledge and expertise of writers in other fields, such as film and tv.
The narrative adventure has come a long way and even though games like Gone Home and Firewatch have become canonical, the general public doesn’t know the first thing about them. Taking on an evangelist role is another challenge that’s being tackled by the group and members will regularly try to raise interest for these games during all kinds of cultural events. In the future there’ll be also physical meet ups, with a first one planned during 1UP in February next year.
