Not even two months after launching Midnight Protocol, our longtime member and supporter LuGus Studios is all set for another release. It almost feels like they’ve hacked their developers to work at superhuman speed, but it’s nothing more (nor less!) than the result of a well-oiled machine that knows what it’s doing. And that’s why Liftoff: Micro Drones is taking off on Steam Early Access later today.
Liftoff: Micro Drones marks the return of the studio to the comfort zone of drone simulations. Vigorously following the latest drone trends, creating a video game about drones that fit into the palm of your hand was a logical next step for the team. That being said: Micro Drones is a lot more than just that. It’s everything you’ve come to love about the Liftoff series, but smaller.
Mind you: that’s smaller in size, not scope. LuGus has poured everything they’ve learned about drone simulations into this Early Access version. It was built from the ground up to provide the next step in Liftoff simulation, introducing better visuals and performance resulting in an overall superior user experience.
While the team is looking forward to community feedback to see what additional features or tweaks can be added in future updates – very similar to how they built the original Liftoff – the starting point contains a lot more content than Liftoff ever had. Drawing inspiration from the Night Fever DLC, the current three maps are playable during the day and at night, where subtle differences in the environment tell a story of their own.
Exploring the new levels is promising to be a lot of fun, but Micro Drones remains a hardcore simulation at heart. The drones might have shrunk, but the possibilities to customise them are still enormous. With both single- and multiplayer modes available from the get go and different game modes to experience the various joys of piloting your drone through real-life, regular sized obstacles, Liftoff: Micro Drones already feels like a total package.
Liftoff: Micro Drones is out now on Steam Early Access for € 14,99. That price will go up when it eventually soars towards a full release, so if you fancy an early look at what’s next for Liftoff, get it while it’s hot!
