The world might have come to a crawl, but our proud member Sakari Games is firing on all cylinders. A mere three weeks after the release of Trailer Trashers there’s yet another game rolling off the assembly line today. Are you ready for Rover Wars?
Just like their previous game, Rover Wars is best enjoyed with friends on the same couch while savoring a drink or two. An accessible cross-over between RTS and MOBA, the developer is keeping the rules simple so everyone can have fun while fighting for interplanetary domination.
The goal of the game is to destroy the opponent’s base. You do this by controlling your rover unit to gather resources by hitting enemy units, which can be used to strategically put down factories. These in turn churn out different types of units like melee brawlers that get up close and personal, and bomber minions that explode on impact with an enemy unit. And then there’s the death ray, which can wipe out a large portion of enemy firepower in the blink of an eye.
The simplicity of the formula means pretty much anyone can jump in immediately. In the campaign mode you square off against enemy AI in 9 scenarios that learn you the tricks of the trade. However, the Battle Mode, which supports up to 8 players and features 17 multiplayer maps, is what you’ll end up playing most. To keep things fresh after a couple of rounds, which should take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, you can easily adjust enemy AI and base strength.
Rover Wars is out later today on Steam (with support for Steam Remote Play) and Nintendo Switch (link in Dutch), with an Xbox One version arriving in the near future.
