The 2014 reports from TIGA found that Apple’s iPhone and iPad were the most preferred platforms among developers. Even though the mobile carriers seem to be on an eternal rise, PS4 and Xbox One seem to be convincing multiple devs to jump (back) to consoles as their platform of choice for their future games.
52% of the developers plan to work on titles for Xbox One in the near future and 48% says to be inclined towards working on PS4 games. This renewed interest comes at a cost for mobile and PC. 15% of the developers expect to drop work on PC and approx. 7% aim to drop the iPad and/or iPod from their field of operations.
Even as PC loses 15%, it is still the most preferred platform with 63% of the developers planning to work on titles for PC.
TIGA’s Dr Richard Wilson thinks that this evolution is thanks to the intense efforts of Sony and Microsoft to enable indie developers to work on games for their consoles.
